Famously known as Heartbeat’s ‘Aidensfield’, the pub, garage and village shop from the TV show are still recognisable in the village of Goathland, together with some of the vehicles used in the series. Goathland station has also been used to represent Hogwarts Station in ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone’. As a central point in the North York Moors National Park, there are walking routes going in every direction. Waterfalls are in their abundance here too, the most well known being the Mallyan Spout, Water Ark and Thomason Foss. There is a good selection of bed and breakfasts, country hotels and holiday cottages, all providing comfortable accommodation; there is even a caravan park on the outskirts of the village. Goathland is a stop on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the steam trains begin at Pickering and run up to Grosmont - during the summer special trains run between Pickering and Whitby. Goathland is only 9 miles south west of Whitby and 14 miles north of Pickering, on the A169. Whitby and Pickering offer many tourist attractions-The Captain Cook Museum, Whitby Goth Weekends, Flamingo Land, the Beck Isle Museum and Eden Camp.
