Leyburn is an important gathering place for the Yorkshire Dales and beyond, there are many shops and welcoming hotels, inns and cafes. Bed and breakfasts and holiday cottages offer inviting places to stay with great views of the surrounding area. Due to its size, there are many attractions in and around Leyburn. Middleham, only 2 miles away is the home of horse racing in the north. It is a fantastic sight to see the horses going through the town on their way to the gallops in the early morning.Leyburn
Mary, Queen of Scots has connections with the area as she was imprisoned in Bolton Castle. "Leyburn Shawl" is a limestone terrace 800 feet above sea level, it is said that Mary, Queen of Scots dropped her shawl here in her attempt to escape the Castle. Leyburn has its own private cinema showing up-to-date films and the Beech End Model Village can keep the children entertained for hours!
Other attractions around Leyburn, include Jervaulx Abbey, where it was said Wensleydale cheese was invented. The Forbidden Corner is a labyrinth of caves and mystery trails which has recently been awarded the best children's entertainment award in Yorkshire. Booking is essential if planning to visit. Other natural attractions include Aysgarth and West Burton Falls; 2 magnificent waterfalls which have all day access. Located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Leyburn is less than 20 miles east of Hawes on the A684; home of Wensleydale Cheese, with its nearest train station; Northallerton 15 miles east.
